I would like to express my sincerest gratitude for your support in my journey abroad in South Korea as an exchange student. This summer (2021), I will be studying at Yonsei University. Last year in the spring semester of 2020, I was actually in South Korea but had to return home due to the coronavirus. I only stayed there for 12 days and was quite disappointed that I was not able to fully explore the country, especially because I was uncertain if I would ever be able to return. However, with vaccines rolling out and conditions improving, I am blessed with another opportunity to visit South Korea, and I am extremely excited to immerse myself in the culture.
Your scholarship donation truly means a lot to me and I appreciate your support in my endeavor to study abroad. It is a significant relief from the financial burden of all the expenses of going abroad; quarantine, airfare, housing — all the costs add up and your scholarship is a tremendous support.
Studying abroad is very important to me, both because I’ve always been curious to learn more about South Korea and because my goal is to obtain a career in the international business field. Your scholarship is a huge boost to my personal and professional goals. I hope that one day I will be able to support students in the same way as you are supporting me. Once again, I greatly appreciate your generosity for the Dr. N.H. Paul Chung Scholarship.
With much appreciation and kind regards, Haley
Dear Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program,
I would like to express my sincerest gratitude for being chosen as a recipient of the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship.
Living on Oahu my whole life has allowed me to meet a large variety of people and I have come to appreciate the different perspectives that an array of cultures has shown me. However, I have barely scratched the surface in gaining exposure to different cultures. With the your generous support, I will be able to say that I've learned more about South Korea after studying abroad this Summer (2021).
It has been a goal of mine to return to South Korea after having my exchange cut short last year, and I am very happy that I am blessed with the opportunity to do so this summer. Certain circumstances in the country will undoubtedly be different (covid restrictions, travel regulations, etc.) but your generous scholarship and program resources have eased my mind a bit. Your scholarship program is a huge financial relief and I appreciate all the travel resources that you have provided as well.
Words cannot express how grateful I am for your generous support in my journey abroad this summer. I am honored to be a recipient of the scholarship, and will do my best to represent the program and the U.S. well. Thank you so much again for your Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship donation.
With much appreciation and kind regards, Haley
Dear Mr. Graeme Freeman and the Freeman Foundation,
I would like to express my sincerest gratitude for your generosity in granting me the opportunity to study abroad at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea during the Spring 2020 semester. This will be my first international experience, and because of your kindness I'll be able to gain new perspectives while learning about other cultures.
I have lived on Oahu my whole life and have only ever been outside of Hawaii a couple of times, so I am extremely excited to embark on a new adventure. When I was in the sixth grade I did a research project about Korea, and ever since then I always thought it would be cool to see the country in person. Now, I will finally get a chance to experience the culture, create new memories, and get an education all at the same time.
After this experience I know I'll be able to say that I have grown so much more, which I can attribute to your generosity of helping to put studying abroad in reach. Moreover, once I graduate I hope to obtain a career that involves international business, and I'll always be able to say that you contributed to my preparation for that. Thank you so much for your support and contribution towards my journey abroad.
