Completing the Yonsei International Summer School (YISS) Application
Woohoo! After receiving your MIX nomination, you'll be ready to apply at Yonsei. Once MIX notifies you that the YISS Application has opened up, you can head directly to the YISS page.
The YISS Application is much shorter than the one required for the spring/fall semesters. Although there were seven sections in total, it only took me about 25 minutes to complete. Here is a list of the sections on the application:
1) Personal Information: Basic information such as your name and address 2) Academic Information: Information such as your major and GPA 3) Disabilities (If applicable) 4) Emergency Contact Information 5) Length of Study and Credit Selection: You have an option of choosing between a 4 week program and a 6 week program. Note that the courses offered for each program vary, so make sure to check the list of courses before you decide which one you will be applying for (also note that courses may get canceled or added up until classes begin, so make sure you have multiple back-up options!). I have heard from other students that is is possible to switch programs, but it may complicate your course registration, so make sure you notify Yonsei well in advance of registration if you do decide to switch. I decided to enroll in the six week program because I wanted a little extra time to explore Korea (: 6) Declaration: Agreement to policies 7) Survey: Short 4-question survey about how you heard about the program and classes you recommend Yonsei offer in the future.
Application Materials You'll need to upload: 1)A most recent original transcript including your previous semester's grades. The transcript transcript issue date must be within 3 months from the application submission date. **Due to the pandemic, it took a while to receive my official UH transcript, so don't procrastinate on ordering yours!** 2) A photo for your ID. I just took my ID picture with my phone and cropped it so that it meets the 3.5cm x 4.5cm size requirement. The application will also provide a photo explaining all the different requirements, and if you don't meet them they may ask you to send in another picture.
I applied in early March and received my acceptance letter through email the next day!
You'll get a message about paying the application fee and tuition, but since you'll be going through the MIX Program, you're exempt from the fees (you're paying UH tuition). Kathy/Vinnie will notify Yonsei so they'll know to process your application without payment.
