The Korean Consulate... Know that they are strict!
Once you get your admission packet from Yonsei you can get your visa! Make sure you are prepared and do your research before going to the Korean Consulate. I went to the Consulate 3 times before I got my visa application approved. If you don't meet the exact specifications for each document they will turn you away. These are the visa requirements and what I learned in the process of trying to get mine:
Location and Hours The address for the Korean Consulate is 2756 Pali Hwy, Honolulu, HI 96817. Keep in mind that they are closed on the weekends haha. Their regular hours on Mondays-Fridays, 8:30AM-4PM (lunch hours are from 12-1). If you need more information you can find their website HERE.
Student Application (D-2) The application itself is just a few pages and it's pretty straightforward. Fill out as much as you can, but if you have any questions you can always ask the workers at the Consulate. Click HERE for the pdf of the application.
Passport Photo The requirements for this photo are very similar to the Yonsei requirements you followed for your student ID. Do note that although the directions on the visa application say that you need a 35mm x 45mm photo, follow the general directions on the website itself. You actually need a passport size photo (2in x 2in) and it must be printed in color on photo paper.
Admissions Letter You will need to bring your letter of acceptance from Yonsei, but I brought my entire packet just in case. The person at the Consulate also looked at my acceptance certificate and matched the " expected cost of attendance" with my bank balance to make sure that I had enough funding.
Copy of Most Recent Transcript You can use the same official transcript you uploaded for your SAY application. I brought the original document and they kept it, so make a copy if you want to keep it.
Certificate of Bank Balance The Consulate asks for your bank balance to ensure you have enough funding while you're away. Your bank balance must be able to cover the "expected cost of attendance" on your acceptance certificate. I brought my most recent bank statement and the person accepted it. If your bank balance is less than the "expected cost of attendance" you can bring your scholarship letter in addition and they will approve it.
Valid Passport You will already have this!
$45 Fee Make sure that you have either cash or a money order because they will not accept any other forms of payment.
After you get everything approved the person at the Consulate will give you a receipt with a date to pick your visa up on, which will probably be about 2 weeks later. When you go back to pick your visa up, make sure you bring that receipt!
